2. 5 hours from Christchurch and the South Island’s largest International Airport, Kaikoura is the perfect destination for a long weekend or stop along your South Island road trip.
Unrecognisable after the 2016 earthquake, Kaikoura now tells the tale of a town who has rebuilt and come back stronger and better than before.

Whether you’re wanting to get your hands on the kaimoana (seafood) such as Kōura (Crayfish) or something from the land, Kaikoura boasts a number of excellent cafes and restaurants and even a Fish ‘n Chip shop that will have you queuing. Fine dining or alfresco, we’re happy to provide recommendations to our guests on where to eat and drink.
WILDLIFE & WALKS
Made famous by its spectacular scenery and abundant sea life, Kaikoura has a number of activities to keep you busy while you stay. If walking’s your thing, the stunning Kaikoura peninsula walk is just minutes away, or for the more adventurous, you can head to Mt Fyffe for a close up of the spectacular mountains.
It wouldn’t be a trip to Kaikoura if you didn’t head out on the ocean waves. Wether you’re bird watching, whale watching or keen for a dip with dolphins you’ll find it here in Kaikoura.

Clifftop Stargazing - Relax and take a breath under a blanket of stars on your private tour, while your guides share the stories of our land, southern sky, and the Māori view of the cosmos with hot drinks and refreshments. An intimate and unforgettable experience exclusive to Clifftop Cabins, also a great way to celebrate a special occasion, there are 3 time slots every clear night of the year available, if you are staying several nights we can take your booking over that window for the clearest night. A night picnic can be added for $80, full refund given if weather is unfavourable.
Sunset to Stars - before it gets completely dark but a lovely experience and sundown into the first stars appearing.
Starry Nights - after it’s dark (1.5 hours after sunset)
Late Night Owl Stars - getting later but super beautiful dark skies
